Darius Ceburnis biography

I graduated from Vilnius University, Lithuania in 1992 and received my PhD degree in natural sciences in 1997 from the Institute of Physics, Lithuania. I received a Young Scientists Award from the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences in 1999 for the research work carried out during the PhD candidate period based on peer-review papers. In 2001 I joined Atmospheric Research Group at the Department of Experimental Physics, National University of Ireland Galway, where I’ve been working since. Our most significant work on marine aerosols has been published in the journal Nature in 2004 and numerous articles in Geophysical Research Letters. My other novel idea was developed around carbon isotopes for an unambiguous determination of organic matter origin in atmospheric aerosols. That approach has been realized for the first time in aerosol science. During my career I developed excellent collaborative skills and continued collaboration with my former Lithuanian colleagues. The research excellence and collaborative efforts have been recognized with the Lithuanian National Science Award in 2012, the most prestigious award in Lithuania. I published over 80 peer-review papers to-date and I am among the top 1% of cited authors in the Geociences discipline in Thomson Reuters ISI Web of Science database with 2000 total citations in the last decade.
I have provided critical technical and research support for Mace Head Atmospheric Research Station which has significantly contributed towards the establishing Mace Head infrastructure as the top atmospheric research infrastructure in the world. I am a member of the Mace Head Management Committee since 2010 and Mace Head Operations Manager since 2016.
I am a reviewer for many international research journals and has served as a reviewer or panel expert for national research bodies (Portuguese Technology and Science Foundation and Lithuanian Science Council).
